I Don't Need To Try To Explain...I Just Hold On Tight

To quote one of the greatest movies ever..."Looks like somebody has a case of the Mondays". Guess what...that somebody is me. Holy smokes today was a rotten day. The funny part is that I woke up around 5am which is earlier than I needed to and didn't even care. 0530 rolled around and I felt the apprehension of the bad day and by the time I finally crawled out of bed at 0610, I managed to convince myself that it would be a good day. By 0815 it pretty much went out the window and never really got better. It never got really bad but everything seemed to be a struggle and that sucked. I can handle the days that are battles because adrenaline starts pumping. It is the days that consist of short struggle after struggle that really wear me down. It was dark when I left the office (which was 82.8 degrees BTW) and just sat in the car for a minute to gather energy to drive home. Good thing that I don't have to work tomorrow because I just don't feel it right now.
Now that we have that out of the way...let's shuffle.

I Want You by Savage Garden - Remember what an awesome song this was? I always forget how much I loved it until I hear and remember that this song totally kicked ass in an awesomely bad way. It gets stuck in your head and you can't help but sing it even though you don't know the words. I fell in love with Savage Garden from the song and stuck with them through their follow-up albums which lacked the greatness of their first. This song is filled with whacky metaphors that really don't make a whole lot of sense but sound great. I actually get a little excited when I hear this song and have absolutely no idea why. Best Line: "Anytime I need to see your face I just close my eyes and I am taken to a place where your crystal mind and magenta feelings take up shelter in the base of my spine, sweet like a chicka cherry cola." It is nice to have vivid memories that you can recall simply by closing your eyes.

What If You by Joshua Radin - Have I mentioned how much I love Joshua Radin? Brace yourself for some serious romantic bullshit but I have realized that I love his songs because they are short love stories. He somehow makes me fall in love and sometimes be heartbroken all in about three and half minutes. But more so, as I have said before, he sings songs that touch my heart. So the story in this song is once again about a love that cannot last. Much like the other love songs that really get to me, there is the upfront knowledge that it is not going to last forever. The honesty makes the love more special because of that knowledge. It no doubt makes it more painful from time to time but it is what it is. Joshua sings this song in his usual soft, almost whisper-iske voice that I suspect that you can actually see me melt when I listen to it. In this song Joshua sings that there is no forever but there is that one night. It is insanely romantic. Best Line: "So, for tonight I'll stay here with you, Yes, for tonight I'll lay here with you but when the sun hits your eyes through your window, there'll be nothing you can do."

Here I Go Again by White Snake - Is there a single person on the planet who doesn't like this song? Probably but only because they haven't heard it. It is one of the greatest songs to come out of the 80s. It is impossible not to rock out when you hear it. It is impossible to resist the urge to turn it up when you hear the opening lines. It is just impossible not to love it. It is a great 80s rock song in the sense that it provokes the closed eyed, back arching, fist pumping movements needed to really sing this song. No one sings it well but that is not the pain. The point is that is an awesome that belongs on every iPod, Zune, etc in the world. Best Line: "I don't where I'm going but I sure know where I've been."

We're Having A Party by Rod Stewart - First let me say that I know that this is not Rod's song. I only put by Rod Stewart because that is the version that came on. I actually prefer the the Sam Cooke version. Moving on...this is another song that I simply cannot fathom anyone not liking. It is just a fun, happy song that is meant for singing with friends. This is the type of song that you want to dance to with a good friend because it isn't a romantic song in spite of its lyrics about dancing with your baby. It is just about having fun...you know...having a party. Who cannot relate to the best line which is..."So Mr, Mr. DJ keep those records playin' Cause I'm having such a good time dancing with my baby"?

Now if this damn Monday Night Football game would just end I would be able to go to sleep so I can wake up and watch the NCIS marathon on USA.

I was at Fuddruckers on Saturday and Having A Party was playing and I was reminded of some backyard BBQ with the fams. If memory serves me, you had a drink your right hand and left arm wrapped around my arm as you made me dance with you to this song that I wouldn't be caught dead dancing to anyone else with. It had to be at least six years ago and I still remember the way you smiled when I finally gave in and put your glass down and really danced with you.

It is always good to think back on memories like this.

I miss you tons my best friend.
