Are You Ready For Some Football?

To answer my own question...No.

I realized today that I am not the football fan that I once was. As pissed off as I am at my Yankees today...I am wholeheartedly a baseball gal. That being said...I did have fun at the NFL Draft today. Here are a few of the lessons that I learned today.

- PA's are a weird bunch. Now this is more of a Coastie lesson than football but I feel obligated to mention it.

- The NFL treats the military pretty damn well. Probably the best of all of the professional sports organizations. In addition to giving us free tickets to the Draft, they also gave us awesome seats and cool gift bags. So kudos to them.

- Philly fans are complete assholes...and often insane. Anyone who doubts this did not see "Blanket Guy" today...the toothless guy who wrapped himself in an Eagles blanket after he took off his Eagles jersey because it was autographed by a cheerleader. He was completely insane. Then there was the "Philly Frat Boys" who screamed and cursed at a group of kids who couldn't have been older than 12....hence the asshole example. Bottom line...I am starting to think that Philly fans are worse than Red Sux fans...and that is saying something.

- It is harder to film a commercial than I thought. Granted it will probably never air or be seen by anyone other than Internet junkies...but that is not the point. I will never give anyone a hard time for using cue cards because I now know how useful they are.

- It is not good for the confidence level to stand next to an NFL Cheerleader...much less 3 of them.

- The ESPN commentary crew is much friendlier than the NFL Channel crew.

- The NFL draft has its exciting moments...but they are kind of few and far between. You have to be a hardcore fan to stick it out. I am not.

Nevertheless...I am glad that I went and had a good time while I was there.
Now if you will excuse me...it is time for me to curse the Red Sux. I hate them so very, very, very much. Damn it.

Like Frankie Said...Doc Does It His Way

Have you ever thought of how cool it would be have "EST" to your claim? Think about it...if you have an "EST" attached to you it means that you are the absolute in that category. Nicest, prettiest, meanest...etc. Now think of how cool it would be to be the "EST" in two categories. I myself have am not an "EST" kind of person...let alone a double "EST"-er but tonight's post is not about me. Tonight's post is about the only double-"EST"-er that I know...and that is Doc.

Doc has managed to be a double-"EST"-er by being the World's Great"EST" HS1 as well as by being the mean"EST" HS1 in the world.

Doc is the HS1 who works at my unit and is pretty much employed soley by me and my health issues. I have often said that if I was in need of immediate medical assistance I would hope to be lucky enough to have Doc be the first responder (again)...as he truly is the great"EST" HS that I have met. I will follow that statement with the hope that he will leave me alone after the emergency has passed because he is also the mean"EST" HS that I have met.

The best example that I have of this is when I first started on my seemingly never ending battle with cysts. I don't really remember passing out in the head or him helping out there...but I certainly remember him dragging my ass down the hall to office. I remember this because he very bluntly snapped at me "DON'T CRY" as he half carried me down the hall. He then told my boss to call the ambulance which made him snap at me again..."I said don't cry." It worked...because in spite of being in the worst pain ever and my fear that something was really wrong...I did not cry.

Another good example of his atrocious bedside manner is the time that I almost passed out on my first back from my surgery. Doc was escorting me to his office telling me that he sending me home and I asked him if we could talk about it and responded with "You can say whatever the fuck you want but you're still going home."

In addition to his repeated checks on my physical well being he also takes the time to inquire about my mental health....as he is convinced that I am crazy based on my love for Bon Jovi and the Yankees. Daily he takes the time to tell me that my health issues are a result of my shitty taste in men and music. How devoted on an HS is that...that he finds the time in his busy schedule to point out that he is convinced that Bon Jovi is gay?

And clearly he subscribes to the theory that laughter is the best medicine because he makes me laugh at least three times per conversation. So you know what...let's take it one step further and say that he is actually a triple-"EST"er because he is also the funni"EST" HS that I have met.

Truthfully, he is a phenomenal HS who doesn't take shit from anyone. He has one of those commanding presences that makes you trust him except for when he is telling me lies about Jon Bon Jovi and Peyton Manning. It is truly going to suck when he transfers this summer. And while I worry about him and his bedside manner once he goes to CG Headquarters...I truly hope that he never changes.

So here's to the only triple-"EST"er that I know. Doc is one in a million...and for that I am grateful.

Best Moments of 2008

Alright folks...I hear you loud and clear. I will admit that I did half-ass the Worst of post. There were a lot more shitty moments during the year. But as I said...it is hard to think of bad things when you are thinking pleasant thoughts. So get over it! Focus on the positive Man!

So lets do just that...here are my picks for the best of 2008.

Let's start with my list of the best songs of 2008:
- Shake It by Metro Station: As previously stated...this is the most creatively written dance song of the year. Everything about this song works and it is freakin' awesome!
- Pork & Beans by Weezer: This has got to the best anti-conformity song of the year. It is guaranteed to make you feel better if sung loud and proud on a bad day.
-Rehab by Rihanna: Incredibly sexy and sad at the same time...Rehab perfectly captures the bittersweet feeling of loving someone that much. I can't say enough of how much I like this song.
-Womanizer by Britney Spears: Great because let's face it...you can't help but sing along with this catchy tune.
- If I Were A Boy by Beyonce: Normally I not a big fan of Beyonce but I have to give her credit on this one. The video is entertaining, lyrically it is slam dunk, and you would have to have a heart of stone not to get the chills from the emotion that she sings it with.
- Rock & Roll by Eric Hutchinson: This the feel good song of the year. I found myself getting pointed and laughed at for singing it at Target the other day. It has a great beat, great lyrics, and has the ability to get stuck in your heads and yet not annoy you for it. The #2 song of the year without a doubt.
-Human by The Killers: So I think that I have said all that needs to be said about this one. Without a doubt...best song of the year!

Now lets talk about the best movies of 2008:
- The Dark Knight: You've got Christian Bale looking sexy as hell and Heath acting creepy as hell. Together it makes for a highly entertaining movie that sticks with you long after the end credits roll.
- Role Models: Granted it was over marketed before it was even released, I still enjoyed this movie. It was funny and once again I left the theater crushing on Paul Rudd. He is one of the most lovable and under appreciated actors currently making movies.
- Horton Hears A Who: This is another movie that made me laugh and cry...all four times that I saw it. It is a great movie for the kid in all of us.
- W: I know that I am probably going to get a lot shit for this one but I loved this movie. Who didn't see it and want to give W a hug afterwards?
- Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Any movie that makes someone laugh as much as this one did deserves to be named one of the best of the year.
- Kung Fu Panda: How could you not love this movie? Once again it made me a laugh and cry and even made me want to learn kung fu. Credit Dustin Hoffman for his unrated performance as Master Shifu because I really think that he was what held the characters together.
- The Strangers: This is my pick for the scariest movie of the year. It scared the hell out of me for days! As I stated in my previous post about the movie...the movie was awesomely scary because the threat is real. I was excited when I bought the DVD and got a free T-shirt with it but can't wear it because it freaks me out when I stand in front of mirror.
- Pineapple Express: This is my pick for the best movie of the year. It was funny, action-packed and heart-warming from start to finish. Seth Rogan proved that he is more than just your average funny man and James Franco showed that there isn't a role written that he can't rock.

And here is the stuff that doesn't really fit into a category but managed to be awesome!

Manning Madness - The year started off well for the Manning family...with both of them making it to the playoffs. Sure it sucked when Peyton could not carry his entire past the 1st round but that's okay. Eli picked up the slack and carried his team the whole way. Then Eli got married...which is cool for him. Then Peyton fought off criticism over his secret surgery (it was nobody's business anyway! It was in the off season damn it!). Both Mannings produced quality commercials throughout the year. Oh and both of them ended their 2008 by securing playoff positions for their teams. I love the Mannings!

Britney Spears' Comeback - I'm not afraid to admit it. I like Britney. I am just glad that it is once again cool to like her. Say what you will about her but she has had one hell of a year and for her to still be standing is commendable. So what if she has to have her dad taking care of her. What girl can honestly say that her life wasn't less chaotic when her dad was involved? Circus is an awesome album so 3 Cheers for Brit! You go girl!

The Eagles tie against the Bengals. Even if the damn Eagles do go on to win the Super Bowl (I perish the thought!), no one will ever forget that they couldn't beat the Bengals nor the fact that McNabb is such an idiot when it comes to rules of the sport.

Shane Victorino. OK so I am happy for the entire Phillies team but I have to say that I found myself crushing on Shane a little bit during the playoffs. He was classy when he was thrown at that I couldn't help but crush on him! He came across as a good guy...and one cannot help but pull for the good guy!
The Breast Cancer Show Ever on South Park: If there was a better moment on TV this year...I didn't see it. God help me but I loved this episode so much that I refuse to delete it from my DVR and I have it on my iPod.

The Return of Super Grover - Ok so this one will no doubt make no sense to most of you but stick with me on this one. In the past year Super Grover has become by favorite animated character. I see him and I smile. So much in fact that I have expanded my Super Grover collection beyond a simple green Super Grover shirt to coffee mugs, a small glass figurine by my bed, and a screen saver just so that I can smile often. How can you look at Grover and not smile?

Derek Jeter Commercial madness. OK so let me start by saying that we all know that Peyton is the sports KING of TV commercials. My point is the Derek Jeter is definitely a close contender for the throne. OK he is no Peyton Manning but lets face it....Derek looks better than Peyton which makes his commercials almost as good as Peyton's. Derek started the year off with the incredibly sexy G2 Commercial, then followed up with his Tri-State Ford commercials (in which he looks super sexy with his Edge), and then launched his Gillette commercials. The one for the razor was funny and cute but the one for the deodorant was sheer commercial greatness! Whoever came up with the idea of Derek walking out of Fenway, getting booed and looking sexier than ever is a genius! Seriously...Derek rocked the commercial world this year which is awesome. Based on the new G commercial that aired during the 2009 Rose Bowl...he is well on his way to doing the same in 2009.

The Final Game At Yankee Stadium: Even if you are a moron who hates the Yankees...you still have to appreciate what an amazing moment in sports this was. The history that came with it, the incredible baseball that was played that night, the waterfall of tears that Derek Jeter provoked from fans in his final pitch...it had everything that a fan could ask for from such a momentous night. I would have to say that this was probably one of the best nights of the entire year for me. The only thing that could have made it a little better would have been some Ben & Jerry's ice cream but overall it was an amazing night that will live on in my memory for years to come.

So far my 2009 has not been off to a good start but I am hopeful that it will only get better.

Worst Moments of 2008

As I started to prepare to write my best of and worst posts for the year I realized that I really didn't know enough about each genre to write anything. Clearly I have been distracted from pop culture this year. I am not the least bit upset by this as my mind has been filled with other wonderful thoughts....but it does make it hard to blog. So rather than break it up by genre...I am going to do two posts this year...the best of and the worst everything in 2008 according to Millie.

Let's start with the things that really pissed me off this year. In no particular order....

Jenny Sheppard getting killed on NCIS. I just started to like her character and then they go and kill her off. I was pretty pissed...and I will admit that I cried. Oh well.

The official statement that The 4400 would not return...not on TV...no movie...nada nothing. This is a prime example why it is not good to like anything...ever. You only get let down.

Wang getting hurt and missing the rest of the entire season. This injury not only effected the Yankees but it effected me personally because I had to endure months of "wang-less Yankee" jokes. Damn it all. Oh and the subsequent injuries to the Yankees sucked too...all except for fucking Pavano because I am incapable of feeling sympathy for him.

The passing of Heath Ledger....call me crazy but I still get sad when I realize that I will never see him another movie. I loved everything he did from his cute rendition of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" in 10 Things I Hate About You to him scaring the shit out of me in The Dark Night. He wasn't the sexiest man alive but somehow managed to make you think that he was when he was on screen. Still bumming over this one.

Chinese Democracy - OK so I really didn't have that high of expectations for this one and yet I still was disappointed. Talk about a total letdown album. I mean...I know that there was no way that it could possibly live up to its own hype but I never expected that it would suck so much. Oh well. Other let down albums of the year include Viva la Vida by Coldplay, Death Magnetic by Metallica, and Black Ice by AC/DC.

The Eagles Comeback - How in the hell is this team in the damn in playoffs? It pisses me off so much that I don't even want to write about it.

The Governator blowing off the Northern Pacific Coast Guard Forum. OK so I know that I wouldn't have been able to meet him but being that I help coordinate an entire floor plan around him the least he could have done is show up! So the budget was screwed up...he wasn't going to fix it in the two hours it would have taken to show up and make a bunch of Coasties' day. Oh well. Bygones.

The BCS system. Though one could make the argument that this one of the world moment's of every year.

Finally the worst moment of the year according to Millie....

The moment when I officially knew that the Yankees were not going to the playoffs. I will admit it...I cried then too. The good news is that I am confident that the Yankee organization has made the necessary changes to ensure that I don't shed those tears again in 2009.
Now I am sure that I am missing some moments but I am in a pretty good mood tonight so it is hard for me to think of bad things. Check back tomorrow for my list of the best moments of the year!

I'm Back

Sorry for the closing the blog for the past month. Most of you know why but for those of you who don't, I have been under the weather and just didn't feel like opening up. The blog wasn't the only thing that I shut out, as many of you learned I stopped answering emails and phone calls. It wasn't that I wanted to be left alone, it was more about me not wanting to display how I was feeling. Feeling weak sucks.

But enough of that. So much has happened in the past month that I don't know where to begin or what really warrants my 2 cents on. So here are of real gems that I can't help but comment on.

Let's start with Plaxico. I'm starting with the fallen Giant mainly because I am pretty pissed off about the situation. I ended last football season being a Plaxico fan. I bought his redemption story and now I look like an ass for believing in him. The guy had it all and totally blew it. What a fool. But at least his demise has been amusing. I mean...you can't tell me that you didn't laugh a little when you heard how the dumb ass shot himself in the leg. I had to make sure that I wasn't suffering from a percocet induced mania when I first heard the story because how dumb do you have to be to shoot yourself in leg? I guess if you are going to destroy your rapidly crumbling career, you might as well do it in a manner that the allows the entire sporting world to have a good laugh. Fucking Plaxico...he single handedly ruined the Giants.

Now I know it is all old news...and in light of how the Eagles are playing is pretty silly to discuss...but let's spend a minute on the whole Eagles-Bengals tie. Everyone already knows that I am full-fledged McNabb hater so of course I found this whole thing incredibly funny. The fact that they couldn't beat the fucking Bengals is funny on its own but then you add the completely idiotic comments that McNabb after and you have a pop culture gem. How in the hell did he not know that a regular season game could end in a tie? More importantly, why didn't anyone in the locker room stop him from admitting that in front of millions of fans (most of whom were well aware of the rule in spite of the fact that their involvement in the game is shouting the screen from the comforts of their living room)? I mean, the man had no credibility in my opinion to begin with but did he really think that using the old reliable "I didn't know" defense was going to make it all better? I don't care if the team is on a winning streak or not...I will continue to receive tremendous satisfaction every time I see that _-_1 on their record. God help me but I really despise McNabb and hope beyond all hope that the tie keeps him from the playoffs.

Enough football....let's talk baseball.

I LOVE that people are complaining about the Yankees again. It is a good sign because it means that other teams are jealous and probably a little bit afraid of the Yankees...and they should be. Everyone knows that the reason the Yanks didn't have a good season last year is because of their pitching...or lack there of. So how can anyone blame them for going out and signing two of the best pitchers on the market. They would be foolish not to and people are just pissed off that they were able to. While it would be nice if the Yanks could now sign Manny or Teixeira in the next few days, I won't be greedy. Without a doubt the Yankees have dominated the off season and I am confident that it will pay off for them in through the season and long into the playoffs.

Remind me again what the Red Sux have done...oh that's right. No one knows because no one cares when the Yankees are doing such great things. All is right in the world.

Finally...let's talk some music. There is really just one thing that I want to mention and that is the new song Human by The Killers. Holy shit is this song awesome. I have to admit that I first heard it when the music video came on VH1 and I was quite completely off guard by it. I had to download it immediately because I knew that I liked it but I couldn't really say why. I just knew it was great. Lyrically and musically it is awesome...but there is something more to it. I still can't put my finger on it but I can say that it is without a doubt the best song of the year. If you have any interest in music at all...download this song. It really is that great.

Well that is enough for now. I have missed my blog.

Joba x 3

Holy Shit...what a weekend for Yankee baseball. After Thursday and Friday night games...I was sweating the rest of the weekend. I knew that the Yankees would struggle against the Angels but by Saturday, all I could do was hope that they wouldn't get swept. While I was proud of the comeback that Yankees waged against the Angels on Thursday night...it almost made the loss even worse. They built me up and knocked me down.

Saturday's game was pretty good...and resulted in a win so that was a plus. But honestly it was Sunday's game that turned out to be outstanding. Only the Yankees can be down 5-0...come back and lead 8-5...be down 9-8...and come back to win 14-9 in a single game. The only thing that I can say is that I love the Yankees.

Moving on...let's discussed Joba x 3.

First there was Jabba the Hutt...who scared the hell out of me as kid but I have come to really like as I have gotten older. What can I say...he is disgusting to look at but he is pretty damn awesome. He was a pimp long before it was cool to be one.

Then there is Joba the Nut. Previously blogs have discussed how I am rapidly becoming a Joba fan. He is my favorite pitcher at the moment and has moved up the rankings to become my 2nd favorite Yankee.
So how could I pass up the opportunity to pay tribute to two of the greatest things on the planet (i.e. Star Wars and the Yankees)?

Meet Joba the Pup...my new 3 month old puppy.

He is depriving me off of sleep and blogging time....and yet I already love this goofy little dog.

My final random thought for the nights...the Colts suck without Peyton. The game isn't over at the time of this post but that is not the point. The point is that regardless of the score...the Colts are not the Colts with #18 on the field. I will start praying now that Peyton is healed by the season opener.
