You Know The Way To Keep Me On My Toes

Happy Monday folks and Happy Yankee victory while we're at it.

Fallen Angel by Poison (43). I wanted to say that I don't consider this to be one of the better Poison songs and then I realized that I don't actually like a lot of Poison songs so the fact that it is on my iPod says something. There is nothing really spectacular about it and the only thing about it that really works is the fact that it is sung by Bret Michaels. For some reason Bret can take an ordinary song and make it slightly better. Not great but better. It reminds me of my Vegas days because I know for a fact that there were days when I realized that the best of line of the song really is the truth. Best line. "But somehow the lights didn't shine as bright as they did on her mama's TV screen."

When The Going Gets Tough by Billy Ocean (138). First let me say that I get a lot of shit for liking this song and I don't get it. It is a classic song from the greatest generation in music, the beat is catchy, and the lyrics are pretty sweet. Considering some of the other shit that came out around the same time...I would think that this would be a welcome change compared to say Secret Lovers by Atlantic Starr or Party All the Time by Eddie Murphy which both somehow managed to rank higher than this song on the Billboard Top 100 Songs of 1986. Whatever... now I know that I am not the only one who thinks of teal vests and ties whenever this song plays. For the sake of friendship, I will not name names but I am reminded of an incredibly lame duet that quite honestly never should have been performed for more than one reason. Nevertheless...it will stand out as one of many great memories as well as proof that humiliation is a small price to pay in the name of friendship. Best Line: "Your love's like a slow train coming and I feel it coming down the track."
Nobody Knows by Tony Rich Project (31). Judging from the low play count of this song, I still have not forgiven it for its overabundance of radio time back in the 90s. Back in its heyday, I think that everyone in the nation listened to it and thought it was wonderful. Then we all heard it for the 1,000,000th time and realized that it made us want to cause to harm to anyone within reach as soon as we heard the opening notes and it all went downhill. I still struggle to listen to the whole thing which is a bummer because it is a actually a pretty good song. I just heard it far too much. I have to wonder what happened to Tony Rich and his project. I think that I would be able to wish better things for him if I knew that he was sorry for the insanity that was caused by his creation. Either way....this song is a good one but sadly no one will remember that. Best line: "The pain is real even if nobody knows and I'm cryin' inside and nobody knows it but me."

You Were Meant For Me by Jewel (129). Here is another song that was overplayed back in its day. Of all of the gems that Jewel put out...this song is by far her best song. I think this song worked because you can hear the pain and therefore relate to the desire to feel normal when your heart is broken. We can all relate to trying to find comfort in the little daily things that should make us feel normal when the fact is that some days you just want to curl up in bed. Best line:"I try and tell myself it'll be all right I just shouldn't think anymore tonight." The reason that this is the best line is because I know this line and the feelings that come along with it. It doesn't happen often but every now and then, usually on Saturday or Sunday night, I find myself having to assure myself that yes, everything will be alright...but sometimes struggle to turn my brain off for the night. It is hard not to feel a little bit bummed out when you hear this song but that is okay. You know that it is a good song if it can bum you out after like ten years of hearing it.

Sky by Joshua Radin (3). First allow me to clarify that this is the new version of the much anticipated new album by Joshua Radin. Yes, I bought the whole CD even though I already owned a few of the previously released tracks. Let's move on. I am not sure which version I like better. The fact is that Joshua could be singing about worms and it would still sound sexy because he has an amazing voice. I am not sure what about this song makes me love it so much but I do. There is one line that always gets me every time I hear it...and it is my pick for the Best Line: "Sometimes I forget to love you like I should but I'd never leave you, no I never would." As difficult as it is to be patient, I know in my heart that I am not going anywhere.

Got To Give It Up by Marvin Gaye (58). This is one of my favorite tunes to dance do while trying to accomplish another task. I think that it is because it doesn't make you want to dance around all crazy but at the same time, you cannot stand still whenever it comes on. It makes you groove just a little bit and sing in a higher pitch than anyone ever should. This makes it a great song for dancing to in the kitchen while cooking dinner which I did tonight in spite of my strong desire to get takeout. Best Line. "Now I've got myself together baby and I'm havin' a ball."

So in spite of the pleas to stop talking baseball...I am not going to. In fact...I am going to relish every last moment of the Yankee season before fully immersing myself in football season. So let's end with a few of my current thoughts on baseball at the moment.

- Good for Joe Girardi for pulling Cano yesterday. He is not that great that he should be allowed to think that he can pull that kind of shit on the field. Someone needs to give him a wake up call or he could go down the same path that got Manny Ramirez. Speaking of Manny...

- Clearly my hatred for the guy was due to the jersey that he wore. I wouldn't say that I am fond of him now...but I don't want to throw things at the TV when I see him. Though I know that it is highly unlikely...I would find great pleasure in seeing him go further in the playoffs than the damn Red Sux. I can't wait to see them choke early in the post season.

- Speaking of choking...what in the hell happened to the Devil Rays. The town of Tampa should be threatening to tear down the damn stadium. How can a time spend so long in 1st place and now be at risk at not winning the division? They deserve to give up the divisional title with the way that they have been playing over the past couple of weeks...even if it is to the damn Red Sux. It pisses me off...if only because I really don't want to see the Red Sux win it again this year and the damn Devil Rays are handing it to them.

Goosfraba....Goosfraba.

- In effort to not close out the blog in a bad mood after that rant...let's end with Joba. Sure we only had him for one inning tonight but it was enough. I will be the 1st to admit that he still doesn't look completely at ease on the mount...but it is not his fault. I have no doubts that he is going to dominate the mount next season when he is 100% healthy. I hate that they are handling him with kid gloves but now that it will be worth it in the end when we get season after season of him being the star of the Yankee pitching rotation.

  1. why won't you answer what is the fascination with joba chamberlain? tonight he looked terrible. he pitched one inning and he didn't even pitch that well. he looked like he has put on even more weight which is probably he looked slow on the release and must have thrown at four balls into the dirt. yet you act like he saved the game when in fact that yanks were already in the lead and it was jobas game to lose.

    it makes no sense.

  2. Fallen Angel is the perfect way to describe you. That is what makes you and why we all love you so much.

  3. I am bound by friendship but not enough to keep from saying that Robin, you looked so so gay in your teal vest and tie. What a fool in love you were.

  4. Damn You Gliman! I thought that I had lived that shit down.

I'm not embarrassed though. I was A crowd which meant that everything that I did was the shit, even if it was lame like duet was. Besides it made Millie smile and blush and we all know that it doesn't get any better than that.

    So I'm cool with it.

  7. It would be too easy to rag on Brady at the moment.

I don't understand why there are so many Joba haters out there. Doesn't really matter though because I am a loyal fan no matter what the haters say!

  8. No one appreciates your loyality more than me Milville. But Joba doesn't deserve it.
